2019 Power 50: Abraham W. Haddad, DMD

Abraham W. Haddad, DMD  Chairman Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives, Worcester Residence: Worcester Colleges: Boston University, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine
More Information

A retired dentist, Haddad’s profession belies the large influence he has on economic development in Central Massachusetts. In the past four years alone, he has volunteered more than 20,000 hours sitting on boards of influential organizations like MBI, the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, the Worcester Business Development Corp., the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, the Worcester Economic Club and the Worcester County Music Association.

Seemingly a part of every major project in Greater Worcester through one endeavor or another, Haddad has the vast network of connections and the clout to champion any idea closer to reality. For example, in his dual roles at MBI and WBDC, he was at the crossroads of the plans to revitalize the former Worcester State Hospital into a 44-acre biomanufacturing campus, where Chinese firm WuXi Biologics plans to invest $60 million in a new facility.

Where is the Central Mass. community headed? We are moving forward not only in biotechnology and biomedical instrumentation but in robotics, photonics and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Salt life: My passion for 40 years has been sailing, which includes essentially exploring the entire coast of New England and all the way down to Chesapeake Bay.
