Marlborough-based API Technologies Corp. has sold its electronics manufacturing services business, API Defense USA, to Norwegian manufacturing firm Kitron for $14.8 million.

The business was located in Windber, Pa. and specialized in the manufacturing, testing and repair services of electronic components for original equipment manufacturers in the U.S.

The move now allows API to be more focused on the company's RF/microwave, microelectronics, electromagnetic integrated solutions, power solutions and secure systems and information assurance businesses, CEO Bob Tavares said in a press release.

The purchase gives Kitron a stronger U.S. presence. In a press release, the company said the acquired business focuses on defense, aerospace, medical, industrial, communications and consumer technology.

The 115-employee facility is close to Kitron's U.S. facility in Johnston, Pa.

Kitron's North America Vice President Hans Petter Thomassen said the facility is in better hands with an electronic manufacturing services-focused business.
