Worcester auto body shop owner charged with stealing insurance money, damaging cars with sledgehammer

The owner of a Worcester auto body shop faces charges after state officials say he stole more than $170,000 by enhancing damage to customer vehicles to inflate appraisal rates and pocketing the extra insurance money.
Adam Haddad, 42, was indicted last Thursday by a state grand gury. He faces 18 counts of motor vehicle insurance fraud, 15 counts of larceny by false pretenses over $1,200, three counts of attempted larceny and six counts of malicious destruction of property.
He owned two shops: Accurate Collision Inc. in Worcester and ADH Collision of Boston Inc. in Everett.
Accurate Collision faces 15 charges, while ADH Collision faces 18 charges.
Attorney General Maura Healey’s office began investigating in 2017 after a referral from the state Insurance Fraud Bureau. Over the last four years, Haddad compounded damage and caused new damage to inflate appraisal repair quotes for labor, paint and parts reimbursement requests, the attorney general's office said.
He would then allegedly make an extra profit by taking the insurance company’s check for himself and not completing the necessary repairs.
Surveillance footage from one location shows Haddad using mallets, sledge hammers and pieces of wood to cause damage to five customer vehicles, according to prosecutors. In total, Haddad is alleged to have stolen more than $170,000 from 11 different insurance companies.
