ACCOLADES & HONORS

Worcester engineering consultant Desiree Awiszio received her award for the K-12 STEM Literacy Education-Engineer Partnership from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for her work with students and teachers in science, technology, engineering and math. As part of the award, she named Principal Olga Serebrennikov from MathAltitude School of Mathematics in Worcester as the recipient of an IEEE grant.

Worcester Regional Research Bureau announced the 2017 recipients of the Thomas S. Green Public Service Award: Brian Cummings, an advanced manufacturing instructor at Worcester Technical High School; Debra Donahue, a staff assistant with the Worcester Office of the City Clerk; Amanda Gregoire, senior project manager, Worcester Executive Office of Economic Development; and Hermes Rivera, working foreman, Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks.

The Small Business Administration of Massachusetts (SBA) announced National Small Business Week nominees for the state. Helder Machado, president and CEO of Machado Consulting of Worcester was named Veteran Small Business Owner of the Year. Darmann Abrasive Products of Clinton, headed up by CEO and President Thomas Puthanangady, was Small Business Manufacturer of the Year. Subcontractor of the Year went to Odic Inc. of Devens; its president is Matthew Hickcox. Winners will be honored at a luncheon in Quincy on May 2.
