Maynard-based construction management firm JM Coull won a Diamond Safety Award from Associated Builders and Contractors for a third straight year. Candidate evaluations are based on the previous year's accident rates and experience modification rates.

Stratus Technologies of Maynard was named to CRN's 2013 Virtualization 50 list. The annual listing highlights companies with the most innovative virtualization solutions available.

Dr. Anne Marie Comeau, deputy director of the New England Newborn Screening Program, and pediatrics professor at UMass Medical School in Worcester, was awarded the Harry Hannon Laboratory Improvement Award in Newborn Screening.

NorthStar Construction Services Corp. of Shirley was awarded a 2013 Master Contractor award from Firestone Building Products Co. for the quality of its commercial roofing. The firm is one of 260 to earn this distinction from more than 3,000 Firestone Red Shield-licensed contractors. NorthStar is also one of 174 firms to receive the Firestone Inner Circle of Quality Award.

Precision metal forming and processing technology company Kinefac of Worcester won a Diplomat's Award from Associated Industries of Massachusetts. The company opened a sales office in India in 2012, and announced its largest export order, to a Chinese commercial refrigeration company, that same year.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Michael Elmes and Steven Taylor have won Fulbright Scholars Program grants. Elmes is a business professor. He will use the grant to lecture and research on food security, sustainability, and social justice in The Netherlands. Taylor, an associate business professor, will spend a month at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand, to help the university enhance its arts-based educational programs.

Steven D. Fischer, executive director of the Regional Environmental Council in Worcester, won the Alfred Frechette Award from the Massachusetts Public Health Association. Fischer was chosen for his leadership in promoting environmental health and food justice.

Tantara Corp. of Worcester, an environmental and civil construction firm, was chosen as Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year in SBA Region 1 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Pagano Media of Worcester has been named a winner in the 34th annual Telly Awards. Pagano was honored for a video it produced to launch the new game design major at Fitchburg State University.

Westborough-based Rainier Communications received two Bell Ringer Awards — including the prestigious Platinum Super Bell — from The Publicity Club of New England. The company was honored for a publicity campaign that helped a company raise $750,000 through "crowdfunding' investments.
