Accolades & Honors: Oct. 15

Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center received an annual state Department of Public Health deficiency-free survey for the second year in a row.

State Secretary of Energy & Environmental Affairs Rick Sullivan recognized Big Y Foods in Franklin last month for its efforts in waste reduction, composting, recycling and energy efficiency.

Worcester-based Pagano Media won a 2012 W3 Gold Award from the International Academy of the Visual Arts for web design. The award was given for the Worcester County Sheriff's Office's newly launched main website, Civil Process Division website and Reserve Deputy Sheriff Association website. More than 3,000 entries were received.

Especially for Pets in Sudbury won the annual Born Free USA Compassionate Pet Supply Store Contest. Winners were chosen by online votes.

DCU Center general manager Sandra L. Dunn was given the Larry D. Meehan Award by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Dunn oversaw the construction of the convention center in 1997 and is overseeing the current $17.5-million expansion and renovation.

Seventeen lawyers from Worcester-based Bowditch & Dewey LLP were selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2013. Richard A. Sheils Jr. was named Lawyer of the Year.

Cassandra Johnson, a volunteer with the Gardner-based House of Peace & Education, was selected by Hannaford Supermarkets as a Hannaford Health Hero. She was chosen for her work educating low-income and at-risk children about healthy eating. The House of Peace & Education will receive a $500 Hannaford gift card while Johnson will receive a $50 gift card.

Janet W. Moore, D. Moschos and David E. Surprenant, partners at Worcester-based Mirick O'Connell, were named Lawyer of the Year in their respective fields in the 2013 edition of Best Lawyers in America. Attorneys Joseph H. Baldiga, Jeffrey L. Donaldson, James C. Donnelly Jr., Elizabeth L.B. Greene, Robert P. Lombardi, David L. Lougee, Robert J. Martin, John O. Mirick, Andrew B. O'Donnell, Jonathan R. Sigel and Richard C. Van Nostrand were also honored.

Savor … Catering by SMG, the DCU Center's food and beverage provider, is the first city catering company to earn WooFood certification. WooFood is a nonprofit organization that is trying to integrate healthy, delicious food into every restaurant in Worcester.

JJM Insurance Agency of Worcester, part of Young Agents Committee of Massachusetts, received a national award at its leadership conference in Atlanta, Ga. The committee was awarded the Outstanding Breakthrough Award. The YAC is part of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents.

Worcester Mayor Joe Petty was honored by The Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United with its Legislative Advocacy Award his support of school health in Worcester and for his effort to help improve access to mental health services.

Worcester-based Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital was named Hospital of the Year during HealthSouth Corporation's Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet in Phoenix, AZ. Fairlawn, a 110-bed inpatient facility, is the only hospital among HealthSouth's nationwide network of 99 hospitals to receive this award, according to HealthSouth.

Marlborough Savings Bank has earned a five-star rating for 84 consecutive quarters from Bauer Financial Inc., an independent bank rating firm. The rating is based on several financial factors that measure the strength and stability of financial institutions.
