Bose introduces new noise-canceling wireless earbuds

Courtesy/Bose Corporation Bose announced the release of its Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II.

Bose has released its next generation of noise-canceling earbuds, a line the company said Thursday will result in the world’s best noise cancellation from any headphone, banded or in-ear.

The Framingham-based company introduced the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, featuring the company’s CustomTune sound calibration technology. The earbuds, which start at $299 per unit, are about a third smaller than the preceding Bose product. They weigh less than a quarter of an ounce and come in a pocketable charging case, according to the company.

The sound calibration technology, which is triggered every time earbuds are removed from their case and placed in an ear, works by playing a proprietary tone, and a microphone inside the earbud measures the acoustic response of the ear canal, the company said. That information is then used to tailor audio and noise-cancelation performance precisely to each user. The earbuds calibrate the noise reduction signal to ears, enabling a significant improvement in noise cancellation.

The noise-cancellation technology targets frequencies difficult to reduce in the past, like voices of nearby coworkers, screaming babies on the bus, or family distractions in the home office. The technology can adapt quickly to noise changes in any environment, Bose said.
