Framingham-based Boston Scientific Corp. has launched a new, single-used ureteroscope designed to eliminate maintenance while still diagnosing stones and other kidney and bladder conditions.
The new LithoVue Single-Use Digital Flexible Ureteroscope has been launched in the U.S. and Europe. The single-use nature of the scope eliminates the operational challenges and costs associated with the maintenance, sterilization and reprocessing of reusable scopes, according to a release from Boston Scientific.
Reducing the endoscope to a single use means hospitals and urologists can avoid $6,000 rebuilds and repairs of endoscopes that can be required after as few as 12 uses, as well as procedural delays, the company said.
