Boylston country club announces new name

As part of a multiyear renovation, Boylston’s Mount Pleasant Country Club is undergoing a name change.

The privately owned club’s new name is The Haven Country Club, helping to avoid confusing it with Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton and Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell.

“The club’s original name has been the source of a certain amount of confusion among guests and potential new members,” owner Regan Remillard said in a statement. “The new name addresses this, while also reflecting the quality in the club that our members prize the most — its nature as a true haven for recreation, relaxation and social activities.”

Remillard, a member of the club, which was founded in the 1950s and originally member owned, purchased it in 2012 and began discussing a name change during what he called a listening phase when he first considered buying the club.

“It was essential to me that I know what the other members wanted,” Remillard said. “My team and I spent two years gathering information and weighing various possibilities. It was very important to us that we preserve what is best about this club while making improvements where they would be beneficial.”

During the off-season, the 260-member club has undergone renovations due to member input, such as refurbishing clubhouse facilities and upgrading the front grounds and entryways, according to General Manager Brian Lynch. He said the first phase of golf course improvements, including renovations to bunkers and tees as well as a new practice putting green, will be completed by the start of the season.

“I see this as a club whose star is rising,” Remillard said. “We’ve taken the traditional country club model and updated it a bit, to better fit the way people live today ... A club should be someplace where you can have fun and feel at home. That’s the vision here.”
