Business Confidence Flattens With New Year

State business confidence was essentially flat in January, according to the Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index.

The index, which has been on the rise since last June, hit 45.8 in January, a "statistically insignificant" increase from the 45.7 it registered in December.

The index hit an all-time low of 33.3 last February. Its all-time high is 68.5, registered in 1997 and 1998.

A score of 50 is considered neutral.

AIM said that although the index has been on the upswing, January's score should serve as a reminder that the state's economy "is still far from strong."
