Computer Services Tax Verdict: It'll Hurt

The state's 6.25-percent sales tax has now been extended to providers and business buyers of computer and network services. The extension, which took effect July 31, applies to business-to-business software design and network services, but not data storage. While lawmakers and Gov. Deval Patrick look at the levy as a way to help generate revenue for transportation infrastructure, most respondents to our poll during the week of Aug. 5 said the levy will hurt.
