Eastern Insurance Group acquires Newton insurance co.

Natick’s Eastern Insurance Group has acquired BBS Employee Benefits and will expand its offerings while absorbing the staff of the Newton insurance company.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed price, was announced on Wednesday by the insurance group that is a subsidiary of Eastern Bank. In addition to bringing over the two BBS employees, the agreement provides new Eastern Insurance customers with access to a broader range of benefits, services and capabilities, according to Matthew F. Shadrick, Eastern Benefits Group’s practice leader and an executive vice president at Eastern Insurance. The acquisition also increases the company’s customer base in the Newton and Boston area.
Eastern Insurance serves more than 70,000 individuals and businesses and provides a full range of personal and commercial insurance products, surety, and employee benefits services.
