FSU Gets $322K In Energy Rebates

Utility provider NSTAR has issued $322,012 in rebates to Framingham State University (FSU) for its participation in the company's energy efficient program.

The rebates come after the FSU campus underwent energy efficiency updates over the last year, including light replacements and a new heating, cooling and ventilation system, and conversion from oil to natural gas fuel, according to a statement by FSU. These measures resulted in smaller energy bills, in addition to the rebates, according to FSU.

"Not only have our efforts to go green resulted in the university becoming a more environmentally responsible campus, they are saving us hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, which can be directed to more critical needs," said FSU President Timothy J. Flanagan.

The Massachusetts Department of Capital Asset Management financed the energy efficiency measures at FSU. The project cost $6.3 million, and is expected to save the university $700,000 a year on its utility bill.
