Gender balance remains elusive in the workplace

Is there an even playing field at work between the sexes? A state task force wants companies to make things better for women in the workplace, recommending, among other changes, more flexible scheduling, active recruiting and promotion of women into senior positions, and ways to encourage girls to study science and math to interest them in higher-wage fields. Is the workplace tilted toward men? In our Flash Poll for the week of Oct. 14, about 60 percent said yes.
