Holliston Firm Plays Part In Russian Clinical Trial

Harvard Bioscience Inc., a Holliston-based life sciences products manufacturer, said one of its products was used for the world’s first and second successful laryngotracheal implants, which took place last week in Russia.

The company said its “InBreath” bioreactors helped in the seeding of the two patients’ stem cells, then promoted proper cell seeding and development in the two patients. Because the patients’ own stem cells were used, the company said their bodies have accepted the transplants without the use of drugs that prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted organ.

The biotreactors were developed and manufactured by teams at Harvard Bioscience’s headquarters, and at its German subsidiary, Hugo Sachs Elektronik.
