Hudson's Bryley Systems Spreading Out

Information technology service provider Bryley Systems of Hudson has been in business 25 years. And it's been in the same location at 12 Main St. for almost as long.

The company has grown since, of course - it now has 17 employees - with five hires in just the past year. And where close collaboration is certainly important for a team, said its president, Gavin Livingstone, there is such a thing as too close. Suddenly the office has begun to get a little - well - crowded. The small business was a little bit too small.

"We were bumping into each other in the hallways," Livingstone laughs.

When a tenant in the same building - a card shop - decided to move, Livingstone saw opportunity.

Space In Which To Streamline

Bryley, which had sections of its offices on two floors in the building, approached the landlord about taking over the 1,600-square-foot, first-floor space occupied by the card shop. It would allow Bryley to have all its offices on street level, said Livingstone.

Some of the managed technology services Bryley offers include backup and disaster recovery solutions, computer support and malware protection systems. But its cloud computing efforts are its current growth area, Livingstone said. "We're hosting it ourselves at this point," he said. "We've been doing it for a client for last four years, have formalized it for that same client and one other that's taken it on. We're just moving it forward from there."

Renovations on the new space are also moving forward.

Livingstone said there is still work to do before Bryley's open house April 11, which will showcase the new space and mark its 25th year in business. Painting has been underway since fall, Livingstone said, and a modern server room has been added. Bathrooms needed renovating as well.

Having everything consolidated in one space will be a more efficient way to operate, said Livingstone. He said the company may need to move within five years. Its cloud computing efforts will grow, he said, and Bryley plans to add to its technical staff, along with a part-time administrative person this year. But for now, Bryley's got space to grow and employees have more room to maneuver.
