Initial unemployment claims rose by 25,000 nationwide during the week that ended April 23 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Labor Department.
The total adjusted number of claims for the week was 429,000.
The four week moving average was 408,500, an increase of 9,250 from the previous week's average.
