Age: 25
Title: Campaign Coordinator
Company: Higgins Armory Museum
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Leominster
Career highlights:
I received my bachelor’s degree in anthropology through the University of Notre Dame, then returned to the New England area to earn my master’s at Brandeis University. I have been fencing since I was 9, and have an archaeology background; with those two factors combined I could not imagine a place of employ better suited to me than the Higgins Armory Museum. Currently I am working with the museum’s $5 million capital campaign. The Museum has raised more than $2 million so far, and we are still running strong.
Community involvement:
Because I work at a nonprofit institute, I see the impact that volunteers have on the Worcester community every day. Currently I volunteer at NEADS; this organization provides service dogs for blind and otherwise disabled Americans. I have also volunteered for groups that provide hippotherapy (horseback therapy) classes to autistic children. I have been privileged enough to see how one volunteer can greatly improve the quality of life for another individual. I commend anyone who sacrifices a bit of their own time to help others.
Biggest success:
I feel that the current success of the Higgins Armory Museum’s capital campaign is what I am the most proud of. The entire staff and the board of trustees have really pulled together on the campaign. We have a long way to go still, but it is amazing to see the progress we have already made.
Dream job:
I would like to be a liaison between nonprofit institutes and the local foundations that support them.
Businessperson she most admires and why:
Joan B. Kroc, who was heir to the McDonald’s restaurant fortune. An amazing philanthropist, as well as businesswoman, Mrs. Kroc has helped support nonprofits located all around the globe. She had the means to make a difference while she was alive, and now, after her death in 2003, her philanthropic efforts have been deemed a global legacy.
