The UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster was named to the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Hospital Honor Roll, the only Central Massachusetts hospital to make the list.

HealthAlliance was one of 55 hospitals in four states on the 2015 honor roll from Harvard Pilgrim, joining the ranks of Beth Israel Deaconess hospitals and Tufts Medical Center. The list, which is in its ninth year, recognizes adult, acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25 percent of those measured nationally, using Hospital Compare and Leapfrog patient safety measures. The Honor Roll recognizes hospitals that provide a high level of care, according to Eric H. Schultz, president and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

“In this time of great change in health care, we want to commend these hospitals for their focus and dedication to quality and patient safety,” he said in a release that detailed the list.

Hospitals were evaluated on processes of care in four categories: cardiac; pneumonia; surgery – preventing infections; and surgery – preventing complications. The results of patient surveys measuring their hospital experiences were also considered. Lastly, Harvard Pilgrim factored in CMS patient safety measures such as healthcare associated infections, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) patient safety composite scores.

The full list of hospitals is available online.
