Mass. Business Confidence Regains Ground

For the first time since July, business confidence is in positive territory, according to a monthly reading from the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

AIM's Business Confidence Index rose 3.7 points to 50.1, crossing into positive territory on the 100-point scale. The figure is down from 52.1 in November 2010.

The Future Index, gauging expectations for conditions in the next half year, is up 6.3 points to 51.3 while the current index registered at 48.9, one point above October's reading.

The Massachusetts Index, measuring conditions in the Bay State, rose four points to 47.5.

"Massachusetts employers foresee slow improvement rather than deterioration, which in today's business world is the new normal," said Raymond G. Torto, global chief economist at CB Richard Ellis Group Inc., the chairman of AIM's Board of Economic Advisors.
