Gov. Charlie Baker and Massachusetts First Lady Lauren Baker on Monday announced the start of the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund at Eastern Bank's headquarters in Boston.

The fund, which launched with more than $13 million, will be used to provide assistance to frontline workers, as well as vulnerable populations impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The One8 Foundation of Boston first conceptualized the fund, and Eastern Bank will administer the fund, while The Foundation for Business Equity and The Boston Foundation will act as its fiscal sponsors.

The initial $13 million was raised by a variety of foundations, private donors and businesses, including Framingham retail parent TJX Cos.
