MassMEP Launches Clean Energy Incubator

The Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP) announced the launch of a virtual incubator to help companies commercialize new clean technologies.

The incubator is a partnership between Worcester-based MassMEP, the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and Clean Energy Alliance Inc. (CEA), the national association of clean energy business incubators. It provides strategic planning, technical training, entrepreneurial mentoring and collaborative partnerships for businesses focusing on clean technologies.

The first company that's part of the incubator is Cambrian Innovation, a 20-person Boston-based firm that makes products to help industrial and agricultural customers generate clean energy while treating wastewater.

According to MassMEP, Cambrian co-founder and CEO Matthew Silver looked to the organization for help with sourcing and guidance regarding manufacturing. Silver said MassMEP's support has helped his company make "rapid progress in our mission to use advances in biotechnology to solve pressing environmental concerns for our customers."

As the product gets closer to commercial production, MEP will help with workforce development, training grant subsidies, and ISO quality management certification. CEA has provided funding for a technical market study.
