Milford, Harrington Hospitals Get Health Records Grant

Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) and Harrington HealthCare System are among the latest health care providers to receive funding to help them use the state’s new health information exchange, the Mass HIway.

Announced Tuesday, the funding, from the Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI) and Massachusetts Technology Collaborate, is also being awarded to Medway Country Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation and CAREtenders, and Charlton-based Overlook Visiting Nursing Association.

The Mass HIway system allows health care providers to coordinate patient care with partner providers, including home health care agencies and skilled nursing facilities.

MRMC received $75,000 to help practitioners connect with partners such as Medway Country Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation and CAREtenders, to securely share patient information.

Francis M. Saba, CEO of Milford Regional Medical Center, said Mass HIway will allow patient discharge information to be instantly be sent from the hospital to other providers.

Overlook Visiting Nursing Association, a division of Masonic Health System, received $65,673 to work with Harrington Hospital for similar uses.

The grants are part of a statewide program of 32 collaborative projects that will allow 80 health care organizations to connect to MassHIway, which was launched in 2012 by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and MeHI.

The Central Mass. Independent Physicians Alliance and the MetroWest Accountable Care Organization also received Mass HIway grants in recent weeks.
