Movers & Shakers from the March 15, 2010 Issue

MELISSA PLOURDE was named community outreach coordinator for Waltham-based Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care to work with clients in Central Massachusetts. She has worked in human services for 20 years and led several home care and hospice agencies and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston.

The MetroWest Chamber of Comm-erce has hired BONNIE BIOCCHI as president and CEO, replacing TED WELTE, who retired Feb. 26. Biocchi previously worked for the Massachusetts Office of Business Development as the regional director for the MetroWest area. Before that, she was the executive director of the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce.

LOU PAPADELLIS will be director of golf operations for Shining Rock Golf Club when the semi-private club in Northbridge opens in April. Papadellis previously worked as a pro shop manager at Hopkinton Country Club. Before that, he was the owner and manager of Golf Unlimited, a retail store in Ashland.

The Training Associates of West-borough has hired CATHERINE ALMQUIST as academic sales manager. Almquist has worked for companies including SAP America, the University of Phoenix’s Greater Boston campus and CSC Index. In her new position, Almquist will help provide expert trainers for companies worldwide.

Oriol Health Care of Holden has hired SANDRA J. KASARAS as director of nursing services for the Oakdale Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. Kasaras is a registered nurse. She started her career in long-term care as a nursing assistant and rose to become a nurse manager and then director of nurses. She has also been a CPR instructor for the Red Cross.

Briarwood Continuing Care Retire-ment Community in Worcester has named RICHARD P. CALVERT as CFO. Calvert previously served as controller and chief operating financial officer for New England Deaconess Association in Concord. Before that, he was senior vice president of finance for Clinton Hospital Association and vice president and director of finance for Sancta Maria Hospital.

Becker College of Worcester has hired RAFFI DER SIMONIAN as director of alumni affairs and the Becker Fund. Der Simonian previously ran his own communications firm, handling clients including the Maine International Film Festival, the YMCA of Greater Providence and the Associated General Contractors of Maine. He has master’s and bachelor’s degrees in communications from Clark University in Worcester.

The University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester has hired DEBORAH L. PLUMMER as associate vice chancellor for diversity and equal opportunity. Plummer previously served as chief diversity officer at Cleveland Clinic, where she developed training programs on diversity and cultural competence and promoted the hiring of staff from underrepresented groups.

The Worcester law firm of Lian, Zarrow, Eynon & Shea has hired KATHRYN A. KERINS as an associate attorney. Kerins graduated from New England School of Law in 2007 and worked as a judicial law clerk for the Mas-sachusetts Probate and Family Court Department and then for a Boston law firm. In her new position, she will continue to focus on family law, representing clients in probate, district, housing and superior courts.

The Milford Area Chamber of Commerce has named its 2010 board of directors. New members are: ROB BONNELL, Worldband Commu-nications; ALFRED HOLMAN, Town Crier Publications; SHEFALI DESAI, Milford National Bank; BRYAN HALL, Thredz Unlimited; and MARTIN RICHMAN, Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation. Returning members are: BOB BADZMIEROWSKI, TMC Services; and JOHN TESSICINI, Consigli Construction.

JILL DESJARDINS has joined ERA Key Realty Services of Whitinsville. Desjardins will work from the firm’s Spencer office. She previously worked as a loan originator at Weichert Realty in Norwell. Before that, she was a lending associate with Fleet Bank in Framingham.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has named EVA A. MILLONA and DAVID SCHAEFER of Worcester to its Massachusetts State Advisory Committee. Millona is the executive director at the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. Schaeffer is a professor of political science at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

The Worcester Executives Association has named its 2010 officers, including its new president, MARCIA PRIESTLEY of Priestly Marketing Group. The other new officers are Vice President BRAN WHITE of Pro-Tech Extermination Services Inc.; Secretary RALPH LEMAY of Roy’s Auto Glass; Treasurer STEPHEN L. CROWE of Sunshine Landscaping and Immediate Past President PAUL TURNER of Marie’s Direct Mail.
