Last week, Nashoba Valley Medical Center completed an expansion of its inpatient psychiatry unit for senior citizens.

The Ayer hospital, part of Steward Health Care System, added four new patient rooms to its Garvin Center for Geriatric Psychiatry, bringing its total rooms up to 20, and expanded and renovated its activities room and some administrative offices.

Nashoba underwent renovations in response to a growing demand for behavioral health services, according to a press release from the hospital.

At the center, patients can undergo diagnostic assessments, behavior management consultations, dementia evaluations, psychopharmacological consultations, depression screenings, neuropsychological testing, family consultation and therapy, and art, music, aroma, reminiscence, light, occupational, physical, speech and hydro therapies. Services are offered in conjunction with New England Geriatrics, according to Nashoba.
