New council to advise Baker on digital healthcare

Gov. Charlie Baker has announced the creation of the Digital Healthcare Council, to advise him on the state's digital healthcare industry.

Gov. Charlie Baker this week announced the creation of the Digital Healthcare Council, a public-private organization that will advise the administration on the state’s digital healthcare industry.

The council stems from the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative, an effort launched in January that’s meant to boost competition in the digital healthcare industry. It convenes leaders from across the field, including technology, healthcare delivery, insurance, medical device manufacturing, the life sciences, academia and government to determine how digital technology can improve health care, boost jobs and reduce costs, according to Baker’s office.

“This council will collaborate to move past barriers in the healthcare industry and solve significant challenges to make advances in patient care, lower healthcare costs and address public health crises, like the opioid epidemic,” Baker said in the statement.

Baker convened the first meeting of the Digital Health Council at the Massachusetts General Hospital Museum of Medical History and Innovation on Tuesday.
