Research For Hope The Tara Bean Foundation awarded $125,000 to the UMass Memorial Foundation to fund brain tumor research. Pictured, from left to right, are: Margery L. Piercey of the Tara Bean Foundation, Dr. Oguz Cataltepe of UMass, whose research will benefit from the funding, and Karen L. Bean of the Tara Bean Foundation. The foundation was named for Karen's daughter Tara, who died in 2000 at the age of 9 from complications related to a brain tumor.

The tournament supports education within the region through scholastic awards and donations to local schools. The program is designed to promote leadership, goal setting, and identity building among Massachusetts' adolescents. Speakers included state Rep. Karen Polito, Lisa Wong, mayor of Fitchburg and Worcester District Attorney Joe Early Jr.

The Franklin Red Brick School Association was granted $1,000 by the Benjamin Franklin Bank Charitable Foundation at the school's 175th anniversary celebration on May 29.

The Rollstone Bank & Trust recently awarded Robert A. Alario of Luneburg with a $1,500 scholarship to attend Boston College in the fall.

The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. recently awarded five Massachusetts cities and towns with grants totaling $40,000 to encourage corporate investment.
