Photo/Courtesy The Goddard School in Auburn recently joined 320 Goddard Schools across the country in a “Stepping Up for the Environment” event, which took place a day before the global Earth Hour, in which people around the world turned off their lights and unplugged electrical appliances. The school event included activities, games and lessons designed to teach children about the environment and also included a student-created banner presentation. Photo/Courtesy More than 170 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club associates from 63 Massachusetts and New Hampshire stores recently were honored for raising $1.1 million for Children's Hospital Boston through the Children's Miracle Network. The Wal-Mart in North Oxford raised more than $115,000, making it the top overall fundraising location in the Boston market and the second-ranked fundraising location nationwide. Photo/Courtesy Southbridge Credit Union recently donated $1,000 to Food Share Inc. of Southbridge, a nonprofit that buys and distributes packaged and refrigerated food to needy families and individuals. The hunger-fighting volunteer group served 4,800 individuals in 2007, 5,100 in 2008, and is on pace to serve 6,000 this year. This donation, through its Community Champions Fund, marks Southbridge Credit Union's 66th contribution to area grassroots organizations.
