Photo/Courtesy Southbridge-based Savers Bank is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1910 by giving 12 local nonprofits $1,910 each. The first four organizations to receive the awards are: the Community Harvest Project in North Grafton, where volunteers grow produce to feed the hungry; Tri-Community YMCA of Southbridge for its Healthy Kids Day program, which draws 500 to 600 participants; Charlton Earth Fest, run by fifth grade students; and The Audio Journal “Voices of Light” program, in which Auburn Middle School students read literature for a radio station serving the blind. Photo/Courtesy St. Mary's Credit Union of Marlborough has made contributions totaling $3,500 to help Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes. Of the money, $2,500 goes to support the organization's programs, which promote healthy lifestyles for people with intellectual disabilities. The remaining $1,000 will help fund the trip of Matt Millett, a Special Olympics athlete from Spencer who will represent the U.S. during the Unity Cup in South Africa on July 3.
