Q: How and why did you get into your field?
Ever since I can remember, I have always been interested in science and medicine and being involved in the local community. I love interacting with people of all backgrounds and personalities.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
A: Turning any challenging situation into a positive one. Someone gets a bad cut, you put in some stitches and it heals. (But) treatment does not always have to be medically related. Sometimes people just need some support or encouragement.

Q: Tell me about one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced.
A: In medicine, you have to keep up with technology, new treatments and new medications to provide the best care possible. Things change very fast these days, so you have to love to read and continue learning.

Q: Who, if anyone, has inspired you to continue doing this kind of work?
A:
I have always been lucky to have strong mentors in my life. People who loved either science, medicine or both, and took me along for the ride. Their influences are definitely apparent in my style of medicine and patient care.

Q: What do you see happening in the future of your industry?
A:
I am happy to note that medicine is heading more towards patient-centered medical care with an emphasis on preventative medicine and quality measures, which is the crux of family practice.
