Title: CEO
Company: World Energy Solutions
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Leicester

Career highlights:
I’ve been the CEO of Worcester-based World Energy Solutions since I founded the company in 1996. In the mid 1990s, I watched with great interest as the U.S. energy market began its path toward deregulation, where the power to choose who provides your energy moves from a regulated monopoly and into the hands of the consumer. I was an early believer in the power of open choice and the power of the Internet, and I brought the two together with World Energy, which has grown to become one of the industry’s leading online exchanges for the buying and selling of energy and energy-related products, including renewable “green” energy.

Community involvement:
Right now I’m involved with the inaugural Vanderbilt Concours D’Elegance Weekend, which will take place July 27-29 in Newport, R.I., and which benefits the Preservation Society of Newport County. This is going to be an amazing event celebrating all things automotive and honoring racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Dan Gurney. I also recently spoke at a Tortus Technologies event highlighting several successful Massachusetts entrepreneurs and benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. My company is an active member of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, and I regularly donate to a variety of local causes.

Biggest success:
World Energy completed a $28 million (Canadian) initial public offering (IPO) in November 2006 whose objective was to accelerate our growth and help us expand into new markets, including green credit markets. The IPO is my biggest professional success to date, and I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Dream job:
I’m living it! I absolutely love what I’m doing with World Energy and the impact we’ve having not only in our community but also throughout North America.

Businessperson he most admires and why:
Larry Ellison of Oracle and Bill Gates of Microsoft are the two business people I most admire. Both have had a huge positive impact not only on the business world but also — because of their business success — on society as a whole. They are both very intelligent, driven, interesting, and socially conscious individuals who give more than they take, and I have a great deal of respect for both of them.
