Southborough life science research company Veristat has acquired Scinopsis, a medical writing consultancy firm based in Fréjus, France.

“Effective medical writing in the clinical and regulatory realm has always been important, yet with the increasing complexity of today's diverse scientific solutions and novel therapeutics it is essential,” Veristat CEO Patrick Flanagan said in a Monday press release. “Medical writing informs critical decisions being made during clinical research, regulatory approval, and post-marketing. Expanding our medical writing capabilities globally was a business imperative, and I am thrilled to have Scinopsis join with Veristat.”

The purchase price was not disclosed, nor did Veristat outline any plans on how the employees at both companies would be impacted.

Medical writers partner with clinical research teams to document clinical trial results, describe correct uses of medical products, and effectively communicate other medical information.

Writers at Scinopsis are qualified scientists, many of whom hold Ph.D. or M.D. degrees, according to the press release. Scinopsis specializes in clinical trial and regulatory documents, medical communications, medical device plans, and patient-facing communications.

Veristat was on last year’s Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. The company’s research focus is on novel drug development.
