Survey ranks cost to stay at New England destinations

At close to $250 a night on average, Provincetown is expected to be New England’s most expensive summer destination for hotel rates this summer, according to a survey conducted by CheapHotels.org. The survey compared hotel rates for 30 popular destinations in New England for the main summer travel period of July 1 to August 31, 2015.

The rankings were determined based on the average cost of each location’s cheapest available double room, CheapHotels.org reported Tuesday. Only centrally located hotels rated at least 2 stars were considered by the survey.

Visitors to Provincetown will have to spend, on average, $247 per night for a double room, the website reported. Coming in as the second and third most expensive New England destinations were Kennebunkport, Maine, and Newport, R.I., with average overnight rates of $234 and $226 respectively.

Rounding out the list of the ten most expensive places to stay this summer were: Chatham ($225 per night on average); Portland, Maine ($223); Boston ($213); Cambridge ($207); Martha’s Vineyard ($189); Ogunquit, Maine ($187) and Falmouth ($164). Providence was ranked number 12 at an average of $157 for an overnight stay. Worcester was not among locations included in the survey.
