Worcester-based clean power generation and wastewater technology company ThermoEnergy Corp. has appointed a federal energy official as its new CEO, the firm announced today.
James F. Wood, most recently deputy assistant secretary for clean coal for the U.S. Department of Energy, takes the helm today, replacing Cary G. Bullock, who will remain on the board of directors.
Wood has worked in the power industry for three decades, the company said, and his knowledge of coal will accelerate ThermoEnergy’s timeline to commercialize a clean-coal combustion technology it’s developing in collaboration with several partners, Bullock said in today’s announcement.
“Jim’s deep knowledge of boiler technologies and the coal industry, as well as his experience bringing major power projects to completion, will be enormously helpful in reaching our goals,” Bullock said.
ThermoEnergy also announced that it had raised $3.7 million in capital from several inside investors, which board director Shawn R. Hughes called “a vote of confidence that Jim will bring the leadership skills and experience to ramp up market share in the energy sector and guide the company toward a profitable future.”
