Unibank has opened its newest full-service bank in Lakeway Commons in Shrewsbury.

The branch takes the place of Spag’s in the new Lakeway Commons plaza at 193 Boston Turnpike. It features personal banking, business banking, investment services, a coin machine and night-drop.

In addition, customers can utilize an interactive teller machine, which includes benefits of a traditional ATM and the ability to connect with a customer service representative.

In conjunction with the opening, the bank has committed $50,000 to the Shrewsbury community through charities for this fiscal year, the bank said in a press release.

In a press release, President and CEO Sam Pepper said the first $11,000 of donations is being dedicated to a unique Community Giving Program. Members of the community are asked to come to UniBank’s Shrewsbury branch to vote for the eight other organizations the bank has identified as worthy Shrewsbury community organizations.

The top three organizations receiving the most votes will receive top awards. First place will receive $5,000, second place will receive $2,500, and third place will receive $1,000. All organizations that do not receive first, second or third place donations will all receive $500. Organizations selected include Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, Shrewsbury Public Library, Lake Quinsigamond Commission, St. Anne’s Human Services, Special Olympics, Veterans Inc., Thom Worcester Area Early Intervention and Shrewsbury Council on Aging.

“We’re a community bank that has been serving the region for more than 147 years,” Pepper said. “We are excited to invite the public to our branch in support of these organizations and the Shrewsbury community.”
