Web Company Expands Into Worcester

Citing rapid growth, Salespod Inc., the maker of a field sales and retail merchandising tool by the same name, has moved into an office in Worcester.

The company has outgrown U.S. General Manager Matthew Brogie’s home office and is moving its U.S. sales and support operations to a private office within co-working business incubator Running Start, a 7,500-square-foot facility near Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Gateway Park at 95 Prescott St.

“The Running Start co-working facility gives us everything we need at this stage of accelerated growth,” Brogie said. “We have flexibility to expand our space as we continue to grow, in a space that is buzzing with entrepreneurship and is very accessible to the high-tech professionals in Boston’s MetroWest region.”

Salespod’s cloud and mobile tool, known as an agile field sales solution, is used in a variety of industries by companies looking to manage their mobile workforces in sales, marketing and retail merchandising, the company said, helping to streamline how information moves between the field and office.

Companies using Salespod are able to track field representatives, manage customer information, collect orders, capture photos and more from smartphones and tablets.

The company was founded in Croatia in 2008, where product development is still based, and was incorporated in the United States in 2012 and said it has customers all over the world. Brogie said the company had $600 in U.S. revenues as of January but is growing at the rate that it expects revenues to reach $100,000 for 2012. He said Salespod is seeking funding to help increase marketing within the U.S. and to eventually move the company’s headquarters to the Worcester location.

Salespod has two employees in the U.S. and a development team of about 10 in Croatia, Brogie said, adding that the U.S. arm of the company is adding about 100 software users a month and will be hiring one employee every four or five months at that rate. Leasing space at Running Start is allowing Salespod to pay a couple hundred dollars a month in rent, as opposed to thousands for a traditional office. Brogie said that’s ideal for the company at this stage because he would prefer to hire more workers than pay more rent.

Brogie said investors have suggested the company relocate to Boston, but that he’s committed to expanding in Worcester.

“I love it here. I love this WPI Gateway Park area. I love seeing all the development that’s making Worcester kind of resurge,” he said adding that he wants Salespod to be a part of that.
