Westborough firm to implement $3M school energy upgrade

NORESCO, an energy efficiency company based in Westborough, will implement a $3 million in energy improvements to seven schools at a district in northern California.

The project will retrofit seven schools in the Rescue-area district, located about 35 miles northeast of Sacramento, with LED lighting and controls, according to a statement from NORESCO.

There are about 4,000 students in the school system.

"By committing to these kinds of sizable, deep retrofits, Rescue Union is taking the commitment to energy efficiency to the next level, which benefits students, teachers and staff," said Rob Reading, account executive for NORESCO, in a statement. "These improvements position the school system for classroom improvements, reduced maintenance requirements and long-term cost savings."

The project is expected to save the school district $3.8 million in future energy costs, according to NORESCO. It will be partially funded through the California Clean Energy Jobs Act.
