Westborough IT Company Implements British Railway Archive

Westborough-based Virtusa Corp. has built a virtual archive website that creates public access to a collection of historical blueprints, drawings, and documents of Britain's historic rail system.

Built for a company that runs Britain's railway system, it is the first archive of its kind, Virtusa said. The site gives visitors a close look at the system's intricacies. It was created using the nearly 5 million records inherited by Network Rail.

A past client of Virtusa, Network Rail hired the company to create the archive website so the public could view a portion of the records, many of which are hundreds of years old, Virtusa said.

Included in the virtual archive website are records on famous structures and stations, including Paddington Station and the Forth Bridge.
