Wholesale Inventories, Sales Up

Sales increased and inventories grew for wholesalers in July, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Sales hit $350 billion during the month, a 0.6 percent increase over June and a 12.7 percent increase over July 2009.

Durable goods sales were up 14.8 percent from a year earlier. Sales of non-durable goods were up 10.9 percent from last year.

Inventories totaled $405 billion, up 2.5 percent from a year ago.

Durable goods inventories were virtually unchanged from last year. Inventories of metals and minerals were up 2.7 percent and electronic goods inventories were up 2.1 percent.
