WICN names jazz artist as executive director

Amanda Carr is now in charge of the first radio station ever to interview her as a jazz musician.

Carr is the new executive director of WICN, Worcester’s National Public Radio affiliate station, according to a Wednesday announcement from the station. In addition to her jazz background and ties to the music community, Carr also brings sales and marketing experience to her new role.

She has been nominated twice as jazz artist of the year by the Boston Music Awards, and has performed with artists ranging from James Montgomery to Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops. She serves on the board of directors for Boston Women in Media and Entertainment, and was previously a board member of WICN and Standish Humane Society. As an entrepreneur, she founded and formerly served as CEO of the American Big Band Preservation society.
