Worcester Firm Fined For Alleged Violations

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued a $2,800 fine to ThermoEnergy Corp. of Worcester, saying the company violated industrial wastewater and hazardous waste management regulations.

The violations occurred at its 10 New Bond St. facility, according to the MassDEP. They were discovered during a routine inspection in February, during which it was discovered that the company was operating its industrial wastewater treatment system without a certified wastewater treatment plant operator, according to MassDEP.

The company also did not have the proper manual for operating an industrial wastewater pretreatment system and failed to meet some administrative requirements for hazardous waste generators, the MassDEP said.

ThermoEnergy, which assembles and tests water processing machinery, agreed to comply with all regulations and pay the fine, according to MassDEP.

ThermoEnergy officials could not be reached for comment Friday morning.
