Worcester Testing Co. To Be Sold
Thermo Fisher Scientific has agreed to sell Athena Diagnostics Inc. of Worcester to Quest Diagnostics Inc. of New Jersey for $740 million in cash.
Athena sells more than 350 genetic tests for neurological conditions like Alzheimer's disease and neuromuscular disorders like spinal muscular atrophy.
Athena has about 300 employees and posted about $110 million in revenues in 2010.
The transaction is expected to be completed early in the second quarter of 2011.
Thermo Fisher also agreed to sell Pennsylvania-based Lancaster Laboratories to Belgium-based Eurofins Scientific SE for $200 million.
