CMass Schools Awarded $685K For Life Sciences

Eight public high schools in Central Massachusetts received a combined $685,000 to purchase life sciences training equipment and supplies, the Patrick administration and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) announced today. 

This grant program is aimed in part at diversifying the commonwealth’s life sciences workforce, according to state officials.

“We want to make those (professional) opportunities available to all students across the state, which is why we are focusing resources in this round of grant awards on our voc-tech schools, Title 1 high schools and public high schools in our Gateway Cities,” said Susan Windham-Bannnister, president and CEO of the MLSC.  

Statewide, $3.27 million in grant were distributed to 35 public high schools. Roughly $6.75 million was awarded previously, according to the MLSC.

Local awards include:

  • $99,568 to the Quaboag Regional High School District in Warren;
  • $99,526 to Doherty High School in Worcester;
  • $99,459 to Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin;
  • $95,429.25 to the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science in Worcester;
  • $90,000 to Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical School District in Upton;
  • $83,675 to Worcester Vocational Technical High School;
  • $75,588 to Shrewsbury High School; and
  • $40,000 to Assabet Valley Regional Technical Vocational High School in Marlborough.
