Bose selected as NFL headset provider

Framingham-based Bose Corp. announced this week that they will serve as the NFL’s headphone and headset provider starting this season.

The audio technology company said it will design and manufacture new headsets for all NFL coaches, which will be worn from the start of the pre-season in August.

Bose will replace Motorola in this role. That firm had the headset rights for 13 years until their deal expired at the end of last season.

“The new Bose headset is being made for the demanding environment of the NFL sidelines, and that’s an ideal way for us to continue our relationship with the league,” Bob Maresca, president and CEO of Bose, said in a statement.

Boise said the headphones’ durability and noise-cancellation features will enhance communication in play-calling and instant replay. Bose will continue to be the NFL’s official home audio sponsor, the company said.

“Bose’s superior technology will enhance the audio and communication experience for our coaches, players and other personnel,” Brian Rolapp, NFL Media executive vice president, said in a statement.

Bose’s sports sponsorship portfolio also includes the PGA tour in China, France’s top basketball league and professional golfer Rory McIlroy.
