Total U.S. small business employment increased slightly in February, with employees earning a little more money and working more hours, according to a company that follows the trends.
Intuit Inc., a California-based financial management solutions company, found in its Small Business Employment and Revenue Indexes that the U.S. small business sector added 15,000 jobs last month, an increase of .7 percent. Salaries improved slightly, with average monthly compensation increasing .4 percent, or $12. This follows an average salary decrease of $6 in January, according to Intuit.
Average monthly hours worked increased by 12 minutes, compared to an average loss of one hour in January.
But results in a state-by-state breakdown of small business employment were mixed. Massachusetts, one of 34 states Intuit tracks, saw a small decrease of .05 percent. It is one of 18 states that saw employment declines. Small business employment increased in 13 states, and remained flat in three.
