40 under 40: Evis Wilmes Terpollari

40 under Forty winners (from left) Evis Wilmes Terpollari, Kham Inthirath, Matthew Abraham and Amadeus Finlay.

Sixteen years ago as a 17-year-old boy, Terpollari arrived in America on his own after escaping civil war in Albania. For the past 12 years, he worked two jobs to enable his family to come to the United States.

Since joining Veterans Inc. five years ago, Terpollari rose through three levels in the chain-of-command to become site coordinator, which includes clinical management of the 85-transitional bed-facility with 24/7 staff coverage. Twice, he saved the lives of veterans whose medical condition resulted in sudden heart attacks, using his training and trademark calm under pressure.

Terpollari is the founder of the Albanian educational institution Shoqata KOMBI in Worcester.

By the time I am 50, I would like to have accomplished... humanitarian missions abroad.

Who gave you the best career advice? My best friend, when he referred me to obtain employment in a homeless veteran shelter.

The people I work with would tell you I am… a supportive, unbiased, hard worker.

Who is the fictional character you are most like? Captain Planet – I love the idea of preserving our planet.
