10. Cards
Networking is not about how many cards you collect or how many cards you give out. Focus only on your ideal clients and exchange cards with them.
9. Muscles
You need to build your networking “muscle,” so get in the game. Even if you stumble, remember that you are getting invaluable feedback on your interactions that will help you hone the messaging about your product or service.
8. Clarity
Keep your elevator pitch updated and critically analyze how it is working.
7. Technology
Make technology work for you, but don’t let it trap you. Manage only the social media sites that support your business plan.
6. The Influencers
Focus not only on your ideal clients but also the other businesses interacting and influencing those clients. Make those businesses’ social circles your social circles.
5. Ideal Clients
Identify the people who may already know who you are and what you offer. Ask yourself how you can form relationships with these people.
4. Intent
As Steven Covey so aptly put it: “Begin with the end in mind.” Verbally remind yourself of your intent. For example, tell yourself, “I want to connect with three executive coaches who are starting a new business or want to revitalize their business.
3. Service
Ask yourself if you’re projecting an image of someone who serves others. By being the type who serves others, people will want to get to know you better and likely will refer clients to you.
2. Focus
If you take the time to develop a business plan and focus your message, ideal clients will come. Keep track of the events, activities and people who are helping you build your business and focus your networking activities accordingly.
1. Relationships
Build relationships with your network, ideal clients and those who influence your ideal clients.
