Attorney General seeking applicants for two open cannabis commission positions

Attorney General Maura Healey’s office is seeking applicants for two open seats on the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, the AG’s office announced on Wednesday.

The vacancies will be used to fill an open seat left by former Commissioner Kay Doyle, who announced her resignation in May, and whose term would have officially expired on Aug. 31, as well as that of outgoing Commissioner Britte McBride, who announced her forthcoming resignation in August. McBride did not provide a final date, but surmised she would likely leave in October, once the ongoing regulatory review session ends.

Doyle was appointed to the CCC by a majority vote of the governor, attorney general and treasurer. She filled a requirement under Massachusetts law saying one commissioner should have professional experience in oversight or industry management, including commodities, production or distribution in a regulated industry.

McBride, in turn, was appointed by Healey, who filled the legal requirement about one commissioner having a background in public safety.

Both of the posted positions will fill five-year appointments and will be full-time, paid positions, according to the AG’s office.

Separately, Commissioner Shaleen Title, who fills the social justice seat on the CCC, noted on Twitter that Aug. 31 marked the end of her official term. However, she said she would be staying on as a holdover for the time being, adding that she was grateful for each day she serves in her current position.
