QCC, MWCC denounce Nazis, KKK

File Luis Pedraja, president of Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.

Presidents of each of the 15 community college in the state - including two in Central Massachusetts - released a statement Thursday condemning the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. last weekend.

The statement -- signed by presidents from Quinsigamond Community College and Mount Wachusett Community College. -- comes after criticism of President Donald Trump for not immediately and forcefully condemning the far-right groups protesting the removal of a Confederate statue. Those protesters were seen dressed in KKK garb, waving Nazi flags and chanting Nazi slogans.

One of the protesters, James Alex Fields Jr., of Ohio, allegedly drove his car through a crowd of counter protesters, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring nearly 20 others.

“The students on our campuses across the commonwealth reflect the rich diversity of our nation,” reads the statement.
