Think Global And Local

For important hiring moves, should corporate headquarters or the local office make the decisions? According to a new report from Staffing.org, companies are increasingly using a combination of both.

The staffing research organization says centralized recruiting operations tend to be more efficient, providing economies of scale and allowing for the use of sophisticated technology and clear policies. But with the increasing globalization of corporate operations, it can be important for staff on the ground to take some control of the hiring process.

These days, the report says, technology makes a combination model more workable. Unified electronic databases allow local and corporate offices to share information, and better communication and data sharing lets central offices monitor local staff's decision-making processes.

The full report will be available in May.
